Two Icelandic airlines merge

The newly formed Icelandic Airline, WOW Air, is merging with the Iceland Express.
WOW Air is going to operate flights to Euorope.

Iceland Express was the first low cost airline in Iceland, and it was started in 2003 as a competitor to Icelandair. Icelandair started 50 years ago as a low cost airline, with lower fares compared to other airlines in Europe at the that time. Like Icelandair, Iceland Express has got a network of almost 20 destinations in Scandinavia and Europe as well as in North America.

WOW Air started to fly during the summer 2012, and it has now taken over Iceland Express.
The new airline will have the code X9.

Neither of the airlines has got any AOC of their own. The Czech airline CSA Holidays has been operating two Airbus A320 for Iceland Express and Avion Express has been flying two Airbus A320 for WOW Air.

The new merged airline will operate a fleet of four Airbus A320 and the airline will have about 15 destinations in Europe, however there will be no flights operated to the US.
