Fear of flying Symptoms and Reasons

The symptoms seen by others are:

That you see a person being nervous. Sweating or breathing forcefully.
The person may be asking a lot of strange questions or talk a lot.
The person might behave in a disturbing manner, disobeying instructions.
The person may be under the influence of alcohol, or ask for alcohol.
He or she may try to concentrate hard on reading a newspaper, chewing a chewing gum.

What are we actually afraid of?

According to my experience, if you ask people that are afraid of flying what they experience as most frightening, you get a number of recurrent answers.

It is frightening to be in a closed space.

It is frightening not to be in control of what is happening.
It is frightening not to know what is happening.
Being afraid of dyeing.
Being afraid of becoming ill or to lose control of oneself.
Being afraid of technical malfunction or illegal acts.
Having experienced frightening things in the past.
