SAS Scandinavian Airlines Systems are facing great financial problems, Scandinavian media reports today Sunday. According to the Norwegian news agency NTB, Danish Television Chanel 2 reported today that SAS will have to lay off 1000 people and that the crew will have to cut 15 % in their wages in order to save the company from bankruptcy.
SAS-pilot Jan Levi Skogvang, who is the
Norwegian Pilot Association representative in SAS, says that “We
will do this! This is a necessary process for SAS.”
The tough plan to save SAS leaked out
to Danish media earlier today. Increasing working hours, lower salary
by 15 %, and 1000 cut in the number of employees.
The Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter
reports that the major banks that have given loans to company of five
Billion Swedish crowns, have got hard demands on the company to save
money and to make a profit in order to extend the loans. SAS has got
over 15 000 employees.
SAS has now got to lower the costs and
to make the productivity go up in order to meet the competition from
the so called low cost airlines.
More news is thought to come tomorrow.
